Toshiba, like virtually all the major computer makers, has issued fully self-independent BIOS (or UEFI) flashing update programs equally the standard method for years at present.
I would be surprised if the support page doesn't testify something newer than 2012, just on occasion the BIOS/UEFI will simply never have needed updating. It'due south rare, but it happens.
By the manner, a BIOS/UEFI update very, very seldom has much of any impact at all on speed/functioning.

https://support.dynabook.com/ is the"back up" for Toshiba at present, since they dropped out of laptops. but I oasis'tUnless Toshiba has a BIOS update listed on the back up page for your precise model, then don't impact information technology. Never, ever, e'er, ever, use something from a different class or make of machine.Toshiba, like virtually all the major computer makers, has issued fully cocky-contained BIOS (or UEFI) flashing update programs as the standard method for years now.
I would be surprised if the support folio doesn't show something newer than 2012, but on occasion the BIOS/UEFI will merely never have needed updating. Information technology'southward rare, but it happens.

found their "how to" install. Go see for yourself, maybe I'chiliad not seeing something. You lot tin can start at Toshiba/support.
Thanks for your reply. JimK

At that place are lots of "sub-models" of the L875D, then y'all'd need to look to run across exactly which 1 you've got. The support page for ane of them is:
https://support.dynabook.com/support/modelHome?freeText=3574893&osId=3333728
It looks like these were issued pre-Windows x (and my partner has a Satellite model that fits that bill) so for the Bone choice apply Win 8.1 64-bit [as I presume this is a 64-fleck model]. When I practise that and pull upward the BIOS update for the specific model above it dates from 2016 (and there are ii, but I would accept no idea regarding how to choose which one as I don't take the additional data needed to click through and brand an informed conclusion).
The updaters are, as I suspected, self-contained programs that will flash BIOS then restart the computer.
If the machine came with Windows 8.i or afterwards it's perfectly safe to use the most recent BIOS that's associated with the Windows viii.1 OS choice. If information technology came with something earlier than Windows 8.1, then I'd cull the Os it came with.

The car came with Win7, I don't recall ever putting Win8 on it, just practice you mean the BIOS file is justWell, that October 2018 "deconsolidation" escaped my notice, hence the reason I did not know that back up was passed off. There are lots of "sub-models" of the L875D, so y'all'd need to look to encounter exactly which one you've got. The support page for one of them is:
https://support.dynabook.com/support/modelHome?freeText=3574893&osId=3333728
Information technology looks like these were issued pre-Windows 10 (and my partner has a Satellite model that fits that beak) so for the OS choice utilize Win eight.1 64-bit [equally I assume this is a 64-chip model]. When I practice that and pull up the BIOS update for the specific model above information technology dates from 2016 (and in that location are two, but I would have no idea regarding how to choose which one as I don't accept the additional data needed to click through and make an informed determination).
The updaters are, equally I suspected, cocky-contained programs that volition flash BIOS then restart the computer.
If the car came with Windows 8.1 or later information technology's perfectly safe to use the most recent BIOS that'due south associated with the Windows 8.1 Bone pick. If it came with something earlier than Windows 8.1, then I'd choose the OS information technology came with.
run in Win10? Just insert usb-stick and run information technology? JimK

BIOS updaters are programs, just like any other program. The 1 I saw (I've closed the window) listed for the model I was looking at was chosen AHCI Flash Updater Program or something very like.
You just download the plan and run it. Information technology flashes BIOS from inside Windows and then triggers a restart to actually finish off the process.
If your machine came with Windows seven then, later on you've entered your serial number [which is the surest way to get to the right support folio] and gone into the software and drivers category and located the BIOS update, if it's newer than what you have just download it and run it. The balance volition take care of itself.

In the case of the model I gave the link for, the thing with the lower version number, ane.twenty, is the bodily flasher/installer program that can be triggered from Windows (and it appears to include the necessary BIOS files) while the college version number is really simply the underlying files used to brand that update.
Most peculiar.

Here's the page I concluded on, it readsY'all don't use a USB stick at all.BIOS updaters are programs, just like any other programme. The ane I saw (I've closed the window) listed for the model I was looking at was chosen AHCI Wink Updater Program or something very similar.
Y'all just download the program and run it. It flashes BIOS from within Windows and then triggers a restart to really stop off the process.
If your car came with Windows 7 then, after you've entered your serial number [which is the surest fashion to go to the correct support page] and gone into the software and drivers category and located the BIOS update, if it'south newer than what you have only download it and run it. The rest volition take care of itself.

I take BIOS version 1.lxxx (InSyde) on that particular box and it's the latest. All I did at the time was download the file like you annotation above and run it to do the extraction, then in the resulting binder at that place is an EXE file that is the "Windows based" BIOS flasher program. I only ran that and the residue took care of itself. The car does need to restart as part of the process.

Flashing BIOS/UEFI tin can be done by anyone, with ease, these days. As yous've noted, that certainly was not always the case, and ane had to look at BIOS updates with more than a bit of trepidation.
Now, barring some really infrequent circumstances, it's "run and done."
